My motherboard seems to be broken, pleasehelp

Hi there, my computer stopped sending signal to the monitor, the keyboard and the mouse and its been broken since May time now! I have finally found out that it's probably the motherboard that has gone bust. I have a 3rd Generation Intel Core i5 3570K 3.40GHz Socket LGA1155 processor and I am wondering if I have to buy a 1155 socket motherboard again? or does it not matter? sorry not really sure how it works but I am hoping that someone can guide me in the right direction please :)

I also have a new cmos battery coming, but I lost the jumper for my motherboard is there anyway to get a new one please? maybe I can try that as I don't have much money right now (I have about £10)

I have a teaching course starting this week and really need my computer back thanks for all your help :)
 
If you want to re-use the same processor, then yeah you'll need a compatible 1155 board.

..What make/model is your current board??
 
How are you so sure its the motherboard, how did you reach this conclusion?

As for the jumper, sorry I don't know where to get new ones. Do you have any old IDE CD/DVD Drives or HDD lying around, maybe you could find a jumper in the back of one.

At your own risk:

If you get desperate you could make your own by using by modifying paper clip to bridge the connections, but make sure you don't accidently bridge any another connections, use some electrical tape to tape up the paper clip and just expose the points where the paper clip needs to touch the pins and tape it into place.
 
Thanks guys for your help, a friend of my dad's recommended a place that specialise in fixing motherboards and they said they'll take a look for free and give me a quote to fix it :) I'm also not entirely sure it's the motherboard, just pretty sure due to it saying online that in most cases it is the motherboard, I've ruled out RAM problems and hard drives, so must be either CPU, motherboard or power supply, thanks again for help :)
 
Also really interesting to hear that I need a lga 1155 motherboard, so I assume my CPU is only compatible with socket 1155? If so that doesn't look too good as they don't seem to produce them anymore lol :( thanks again let's pray they can fix this :)
 
not enough info in the OP to determine this is a motherboard issue, could be Graphics card, are you using onboard graphics within the CPU, if so could be the CPU built in graphics, your CPU has a built in "Intel® HD Graphics 4000" chip, is that the graphics you are using or are you using a separate car?

in the case you are using a separate card try using the onboard graphics by removing the card and enabling your onboard graphics in the BIOS, can you enter the BIOS?

if you can't enter the BIOS via ether your onboard graphics or graphics card to get some kind of display happening on your system, then the problem could be the board, but I would still guess at this point the PSU is a more suspicious culprit for your PC not working, could even be both the PSU and Board, if your PSU has gone it could easily take the board with it, but its more likely that its ether both the PSU and the board together or just the PSU than it is just the board.

If you can get to see the BIOS, maybe some setting within the bios which is out, like having your internal graphics disabled for example, in which case nothing wrong with your PC, just need to config the BIOS.

Another suspect is that if the graphics chip in the CPU has gone down, the CPU could still be fine and may still work with a new GPU card.

If you do need a new board then yes you will need the same socket, but I would not jump in with what you know so far about the problem and assume its the board, PSU is more likely but I would not just assume that ether, have you even considered and eliminated the chance the monitor is faulty not the PC?

As for picking up a 1155 socket board most shops wont still stock them, but you will find one online somewhere even if second hand on eBay, in fact I would bet brand new 1155 socket boards are still around a few online shops.
