My new computer

Well I got a new computer, and it arrived today. All is well but my question is, how much ram should be used when ...doing virtually nothing? For example, right now I'm on firefox and using Windows Media Player...and around 50% of my ram (2 gigs dual channel) is being used? Even if I close everything, it doesnt change much. Is this normal?

*edit* Well everything I look into seems to show that this is normal.(am I right?)

There's probably a bunch of 'bonus' software that came preinstalled that you can remove. Who built your PC?

are you using vista?

this was my memory usage with vista, it's a resource hog

well if its prebuilt from a manufacture it prolly has a crap load stupid software on it that u dont need, id start by removing it all, but firefox is bit of a resource hog to

What kind of periphs?
When I had 1GB ram on my AMD 3000+ Platform downstairs, it would chop my RAM in half right off the bat... because of my G15
Becuase the keyboard itself requires 512mb ram, So I'd see my RAM usage at around 55-60% all the time, just idling. Then up around 90-95% gaming.
:/
