My new Processor E7400 not working

hey guys, i was using an intel celeron D 331 2.66ghz processor and it was really slow so i thought of buying a new processor... i wanted to get 1 of the core 2 duo processors because they are fast and use the LGA 775 sockets (same socket as my celeron) so i bought the E7400 model 2.80ghz and i installed it onto my motherboard very smoothly (no damages on pins or socket) i also applied the thermal paste correctly onto the cpu. i put the fan/heatsink as it is supposed to be, and made sure everything was in place. So i plugged back in all my wires and stuff and when i tried to turn on my PC... it didn't turn on,there were no lights on the pc, monitor was just blank with nothing, but the fans were moving how they were supposed to be, so i reinstalled my old cpu and it works fine, but just this new processor doesn't work... i also tried removing my graphics card but it still didnt work...if anyone knows the solution to this, please post a reply, thanks.

by the way, i dont know if processors have anything to do with powersupplies but my power supply is 300W psu, maybe its too low for a E7400?
i also dont know how much FSB my motherboard has.

You probably have an old board that doesnt support Core 2 Duo, you may be able to upgrade the BIOS and be able to use your new chip, however if this doesnt work, You'll have to get a new board.

Please boot up the system with the celeron cpu in it, download a program called CPUZ (google it) Click on the 2nd tab, and then post a screenshot.

We will then be able to see what motherboard you have, and also tell you what you have to do in order to get the E7400 working. :)

Cannot post screenshot

i can't post a screenshot because the max file size for this website is 19kb...
