i went and got a computer from a guy he said was all fine except the hard drive is bad.. im thinkin ok cool i can just put my hard drive in from my other computer. so i put it in and it tells me "error loading OS" and something about putting in my system disk and hitting enter. the guy gave me a disk he said i might need to put in when i get a new hard drive.. but i thought because my hard drive already runs fine in my computer i could just move it and all my same stuff would pop up i would just need to install the drivers for the video card and all that good stuff.. but instead no i get an error loading operating system. figured i would try and get some responses before i tried puttin in the disk he gave me.. maybe could just be a bad cable??

So you had an OS installed on another computer in the hard drive, and you took that hard drive and put it in the new computer?

If yes, you need to reinstall windows. It has to do with your drivers for your motherboard and other hardware.

yea thats basically what it is.. its the hard drive from in the comp im on right now. just runs windows xp.. but i bought this computer from rent-a-center so i didnt get a windows xp disk with the purchase.. just for some specs my hard drive is 160gb its currently hooked up to a ECS p4vmm2 v7.3 motherboard with an intel pent 4 processor.. im tryin to plug it into a ABIT fatal1ty an8 sli motherboard which has an amd processor not sure exactly which one but its only runnin 2.2ghz.. everything else seems to be in order even the uGuru on the front turns on and tells me what speed the processor is runnin at and the temp.. so anyway is there a way to fix this without buyin a windows disk?

None. You need to reinstall windows. Or you could go with linux for free. I have no knowledge of linux and the options, but other members do.

well here is the update.. now when i start the computer it goes all the way to the windows xp loading screen where the green bars are going across the screen.. then the screen goes black and says entering power save and the comp restarts.. could this just be the driver for the video card not bein installed on my HD?

You need to reinstall windows on the drive if you transfer the drive from one computer to another and it doesn't have the same motherboard in it. If you don't have install cd's then you will have to buy a new operating system to install it. You will not be able to transfer the license from the old system to the new.
