My OS will not boot

When i open my computer it doesnt boot up the os instead it goes to a screen where it says sil satalink 3132 bios version 7.3.12 and it is not the actual BIOS.

Sometimes my keyboard would work and go to the setup menu, but other times the keyboard is dead and does not do anything. However, whatever i do i always end up back to that same screen, with the says sil satalink 3132 bios version 7.3.12.

I don't think the hard drive is failing because the computer still has the ability to detect that drive, but i could be wrong. Also the sata connector works because i switched it off with a new one and it continues to happen. It might be psu failure on that one cord, but i would not think that is the problem because the mobo would not be able to detect it. I named most of the problems i could think off, but nothing seems to help.

So is there anyway that i could boot up my computer like normal again? I just shut off my computer yesterday and when i started it up this happened. Help would be appreciated. Thanks

Have you tried resetting CMOS? Refer to your MoBo's manual for their recommended way, or simply unplug the PSU, press the power button to discharge any remaining juice, and remove the MoBo battery for a few seconds. Replace the battery, plug in the PSU and try to boot.

If that doesn't work, my second guess would be a dead MoBo battery. A simple replacement might fix everything.

Is that "sil satalink 3132" onboard or some kind of expansion card? Could you remove it/disable it? I know my board has two SATA controllers onboard and I've disabled one of them. Unless it's your only SATA controller, I was wondering if the machine would boot without it.

Resetting the cmos doesn't work so i guess ill try buying a new battery. I could find one almost anywhere right? Also as for the disabling the sata controller i don't think i could do that. Thanks for the help

After changing the CMOS battery (CMOS RESET). Go to CMOS and choose the best performance or optimal performance option. Save Changes and Reboot. Reformat your HD and install a fresh copy of Operating System. If that doesn't work, have a real technician to check your motherborad. The capacitors might not be working properly.
