I haven’t built a pc before and id like too get this right (since ill be risking all my money), so help and suggestions are more than welcome!
You should probably know here and now I don’t know what I am doing and am simply going on what I have read in magazines and forums, feel free too suggest completely different products than that I have suggested if they are more appropriate for the job and whether or not these are good value or not.
My apologies in advance if this turns into incoherent ramblings but please stick with me I have a lot of questions.
I have decided too buy the ATI x1800xt card as they have had a sudden price drop and are considered a bargain and pretty high range (as far as I know).
The Sapphire ATI Radeon X1800 XT 512MB is £234.94 from www.overclockers.co.uk .
Id like an AMD Athlon 64 Dual Core possibly the 4400 + Socket 939, Toledo Core, 2x 2.2GHz, 2MB Cache (www.scan.co.uk £300)
I don’t know which mother board too buy but is there one that compliments the ATI crossfire duel x1800xt(for a future upgrade) and the Athlon processor?
It would also be handy if it supports Sata or Sata 2 and would support the ram that I have chosen (for that matter all my components chosen if possible).
The RAM corsair twinx 1024-4400c25 is fast (as far as I know)
it comes in sticks of 2x512 ..(id like too upgrade too 2mb at a later point, therefore do I have too buy in sticks of 1mb or do I have too choose a motherboard with more RAM slots?)(is that possible?.. if not ill get the 2mb now)
I also have no idea about RAM slots and the different types (please would someone tell me how the different types vary in performance, what type should I go with)
Id like a 250 GB Hardrive Sata or Sata2
I have no idea what sound card I will need if one at all (is one built into the motherboard?) ideally id like too get surround sound but most probably at a later date when I can afford it. (I am currently going too use headphones instead of speakers)
When Iv got this all together what sort of power supply should I get?.. keeping in mind room for expansion 1000w?..
On a side note is it possible too run a x1800xt with a x1900xt in crossfire mode? is there much point? and is 2 x1800xts better than a single x1900xt? (for future expansion possibilities)
I have already gone and bought myself a View sonic VX724 17inch monitor which cost me £170 from www.morecomputers.com
Im also going too get one of the logitec g5 gaming mice as it had good reviews, not sure what keyboard but something complimentary too my monitor and case silver/black.
In terms of a case I want something that keeps things extremely cool ( as iv had lots of problems with my PCs overheating in the past)
If you can give me some warnings so I don’t fry my system id very much appreciate that.
Ill be using this pc for gaming as well as doing 3d modelling and animation (which I am studying at university in September) I will also be using it for stuff like Photoshop and hammer editor for hl2.
Thank you very much for your time reading through this and any help you can offer.
