My pc sometimes doesn't boot..

Not sure if this is software or hardware related, so sorry if this post is in the wrong part of the forum.. Recently my pc has started to decide not to boot sometimes (eg after reboot), it just hangs on the very first screen (vclass). If i turn it off, leave it for a few minutes and then try again, it suddenly starts. Could this be because the processor gets too hot due to a dusty fan or something? Before that it sometimes wouldn't 'wake up' at all from standby mode. But again, only sometimes. I can't remember anything significant I've done on the pc that could've caused this..

And if it is dust, how do I clean it out? Canned air?

Just in case it's relevant at all:
Windows XP SP2, Pentium 4, 2.53GHz, 1.46GB RAM, plenty of free space left...

If it's dust, yes canned air will work wonders. If you're confident, you can unplug everything and take out your entire MoBo. That way you can have better access to your CPU's heatsink.

hmmm, nah i better leave my motherboard where it is, don't wanna mess anything up...

so what else could it be besides dust? or are there too many possible causes to diagnose with so little info?
