My PC won't boot occasionally

Hello,

Here's my problem. My PC when left off for hours or days at a time, will sometimes not start up. When I press the power button on the front of the case, nothing happens.

However, if I perform a hard boot using the power button, there is no problem at all starting the computer back up. My problem only happens when the computer has been off for an extended amount of time. It is only after pushing the power button numerous times, waiting, and pushing it some more that the PC finally turns on, and sometimes this can take hours.

Even more puzzling to me is this; sometimes after pushing the power button numerous times and then stopping and waiting, the PC will start up on its own for about 1 second and then turn off without me having touched anything or pushed the power button. After this happens I know that now I can hit the power button and the PC will turn on.

Any replies with ideas, advice, or solutions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.
