My Power supply is TOO LOUD!

I just need help finding a good QUIET power supply for a computer w/ an intel celeron 1.2ghz processor.

The reason i have to get rid of my "stock" PSU is it's way too loud. I just bought a ultra quiet fan, so now i know it has to be my PSU making all that noise.

I just want an extremely quiet computer. I have another computer bought from Dell that is unbelievably quiet. I just put mine together about a month ago and yes i do know some of my noise is coming from my case, but the fan noise is much louder.

Any suggestions as what quiet power supply to get and where to get it?

Thanks! :D

Since you only have a 1.2Ghz celeron, no need to go for the 550Watt PSU. You can find some really cheap ones on newegg that around bwtween 250-700watts. I dont know how quiet they are personally, but tell you the decibels from it, and you can read the reviews and see what people say is quiet.

Your PSU is too loud probably because of some huge amounts of dust in there and specifically in the fan. If you can manage to clean it using a blower or something like that (Don't clean it with any non-alcoholic material), I think it will work fine unless it is having some mal-function or so.

Shouldn't have got that dusty in a month, were are your bit and bobs new or used when you bought them?

I built the computer from scratch...brand new parts, all from newegg. I made an error on the cpu, i meant to say that i have a 2.4ghz celeron processor.

The PSU came with the case so im sure its not good. any suggestions on a quiet good cpu, around 350 watts?

If you have any spare fans that can fit the hole, you can just open up your psu and replace the fans (could void your warranty though).

I have a coolermaster purepower 450. I know that's more than you need, but it's silent! They might have a lesser version for you. Heck my system doesn't show over 200watts on the little meeter

Something else you could try is just changing out the fans in your PS. Now I don't really reccomend this, but it's perfectly possible...

Probably a bit expensive for him, but that's very cool. :D Still, some fan power supplies are not even audiable. I know mine is silent, espcailly when paired with the other fans which aren't too noisey either

Any good sites to find these PSU? I don't want to spend to much, but whatever i get ill probably use for my next PC build.

Yes it is. You see, the Gateway I use runs a Pentium 4 1.6 Ghz and 1 GB ram on a 160 watt power supply with a 20GB hard drive. 350 will MORE than cover all your needs. It is plenty. Enjoy.

You dont WANT a cheap 700W psu

@GregJ ... 14A on the 12V rail is really on the low side ... ok for P3s and stuff but definitely not for anything past that

Is a 350 watt power supply good enough to run a 2.4ghz celeron processor (40 gig hard drive)?
If its a good 350W one ... see the PSU101 for some suggesstions ... the Antec Phantom 350 (and its got 34A to play with) is dead silent too

True. I was going to suggest a much better PSU, but I was being price conscious. A much better PSU would cost more. Mazerman, if money isn't a problem, go for a better PSU! ;)
