My Recent Documents dus not work

Hi. Since today, I started having a very strange problem: Everytime I save a word document and then try to open it from 'My Recent Files', it fails to run, opening a window saying that 'I typed the wrong file name'. Even if I try to open it directly from the folder, it fails to operate (except that the window dus not appear). The only way to open a file is by first opening MS Word and then going to File >> Open. Can u plz help me with dis coz I tried system restore and it dus not fix the prob...
 
If the document won't open directly from the folder in say, Explorer, it could be you've lost the file association for .doc extension. Alternatively, you may have accidentally been saving the documents with no file extension (although that should bring up message asking what application to open with).

If you right-click on a .doc document, then Properties it will tell you default application.

Otherwise in Explorer, Tools/Folder Options/File Types find doc extension.

ARRRGGH i tried going to the Tools/Folder Options/File thing to find extension .doc. It had Microsoft Word selected to open it. I also made sure that I was saving in .doc (Word document) extension in Word. In other words, I did everything mentioned by Starman* and it still dus not work :(. Can u plz help coz this is really killing me...
 
Did you try reinstalling Word? I'm not sure if there is a repair option - choose that if available. I would have tried a reinstall before doing a System Restore (which is a fairly drastic measure affecting all the pc).

If the above does not work I would do a virus check on the Word folder (Program Files/Microsoft Office?) and the C:\Documents and Settings folder. Word can run scripts, which could be infected.
