My security protected wireless disappeared

I have had a wep security protected net work for all my wireless devices for several years all of a sudden tonight the internet went down and when I reset the router like I have done a dozen times before it came back up unprotected and my own personal ssid name was replaced by the routers name does anybody know why this would happen or I can get back my network thanks in advance for any help.

Sometimes the NVRAM becomes unreadable or wiped. How did you do the reset, just pull power?

I'd say use the same settings as before, but you really don't want to be using WEP at all as it can be cracked in seconds. Go for WPA2 with a long passphrase.

Reseting the router will wipe the settigs. You shoulod have just unplugged the power cord.

What router do you have? Name and model.

If the router supports it and your hardware supports it use WPA2 AES security encryption with a password that uses upper, lower case letters, numbers and symbols. Sometimes it's impossible due to haveing to remember a complex password, but it's easy to chose a word or two and insert a few numbers and symbols. Like @PaSs!WoRd&645#. Just write it down or store it in keepass.

You must have pressed the reset button on the back of the router this time. Doing that will reset it back to factory defaults.

To login to the router and change the security, type 192.168.1.1 into your browsers address bar and hit enter. It will then ask for login info. Leave username blank and enter admin for password. Access the wireless security section to setup your security and to change the name of the SSID. Then save your settings.

Thank you for this information the thing that puzzles me is I never touched the router itself I just unplugged it from the wall waited 20 seconds and plugged it back in like I have done many times before but this time my ssid name was gone and just replaced with linsys and unprotected
