My Sony PCV-RX550 freezes at very start up

I have a PCV-RX550 Sony desktop that I use to download all my music, movies, etc. i think its 2002 or somewhere close and it sat in our garage for about a year until i pulled it out about 8 months ago, ive been having problems ever since; it randomly freezes where the only way to get back working is to manually turn it off and restart it, and now 2 weeks ago it doesnt want to turn on at all, it gets to the first screen(the SONY logo) and seems to freeze there. I thought there might be a problem with the CPU, so i bought a new one, replaced it and it still wont start. I guess the last thing i could think of is the video card is dead, what do you think?

Well, that pc does sound a bit old. If you still have the monitors, keyboard, and speaker, go ahead and keep that and try for a new one.

Found a link of it in amazon and it stated that it was only expandable to 512mb, so it's probably not worth trying to fix it. It could be the motherboard itself.

You booted fine into the logo so the video card is working fine. Try blowing out all dusts if you haven't already done so. Check all the connectors and connections to make sure they aren't loose. Other than that, a new pc may be a better choice.
 
I also have a sony and had the same promblem. I got a new key board and it has worked fine ever since. Have not got a clue as to what is going on here but that is what worked for me. Good luck!
 
wait... so u got a new "key board" like the one u write on, and it fixed ur problem? How the heck could that help with anything???

What would make you think of replacing the keyboard?
 
lol same here.. unless your keyboard had a virus , JK... well... if it freezes id check the HDD. is it corrupted ? when you "download music and files" are you sure you didnt download aa boot virus or trojan or soemthing? does it ALWAYS freeze at startup? at which part of the start up?


Or, buy a new keyword every time it freezes....
 
... and the power supply is fine, the computer has all the lights flashing that it should it has the fan going, but now my screen just stays black as if i didnt even turn on my computer. I think ill buy a video card off of ebay or something and c if thats the problem. I like this computer, even though its worth no more than 200$ its a really good music/movie download computer.
 
ah.. ignore my last post... now: yes its the video card problem, or at least i think it is. if it isnt.. RAM problem. just get a 2 MB video card off ebay for $5.


your compy looks nice! is till use my 486DX for a mini-gamer:P :P
 
well when i turn it on, it used to freeze at the very first thing it showed up(the black screen w/ the sony logo) but now the monitor doesnt even display anything. I changed the harddrive so there shouldnt be any virus unless it like got in to the CPU or ram but i dont think that possible lol.
