my system is choppy

i noticed that my computer started being choppy...every minute my computer hangs for a while.about 3 sec, even if im just using ms word, and returns to being normal again...i hate it because i use my computer to run my DAW...

my cpu goes up to 100% every minute even if im not doing anything...

i suspect that its a virus but im not really sure..

i use windows xp...avast anti virus, zone alarm firewall, firefox and thunderbird

i have an athlon xp 1700,msi board,via chipset, 1gb of ram, 32 mb shared video memory, 2 hd 80gb each...

yeah just give you cfomputer a clean up and delete files that you dont need etc! it might not instantly slove the problem but the cleaner your comp the better it will run!

i always try and clean as much as i need and it help my system run good! Problems still occur but not that many bad ones!

i use ccleaner to...do you know any software that can monitor changes in my registry...i have i use spybot's tea timer but it doesn't describe the registry entry...i don't know if i should allow it or not...
