My Word files has dissapeared. Please help!!!

Hi,

I was doing my university coursework last night and saved the file before I finished (it was previously located on my desktop screen). I then dragged and dropped it, along with other files into a folder that was on my desktop. This morning I have looked for it, and it is not there! I have also searched the Hard Drive for it, and tried running it from the documents- none of which have worked. I have checked the recycle bin too. It is not there!!!

I am running Windows XP.

Please could anyone advise me how I could retrieve it, or what programme I could download in order to retrieve it.

Any advise would be very much appreciated.

Are the other files you dragged and dropped into that folder on the desktop still there or did you lose those too?

Although this is unlikely, I would set xp to show you hidden files and folders. Now look in the folder where the document should be. Maybe its attributes somehow got changed to "hidden".

How did you search your computer? I would enter a search like *.doc or *.docx (depending on if you have Word 2007 and if so on how you set Word 2007 to save files) and ultimately search the entire hard drive.

It is unlikely that a file would just disappear. If nothing else went wrong. Check again on your desktop. Could you have accidentally changed the name? Or accidentally dropped it into another folder?
