I've not noted their address' but I recently have visited a couple of sites that have the icon in the address bar ad in addition eight to ten characters of text before the http address. I build web sites for free for churches and charities and was wondering, does anyone have the code? It does not show up ibn the View Source Option.
 
You make the image, rename it to favicon.ico (doesn't matter which image it was in most cases) then upload it to your server's or webhost's public_html folder. It will find and display it. Not sure what you mean by the text.

You're the only one that took a shot at it and that I appreciate but being a webmaster I knew about the icon and now I wish that I had bookmarked the two site I saw the better look on. But I'll keep looking until I find the answer.

I'll bet Bill means this:

That's a security status indicator that Firefox has, it's not reproducible unless you pay a security company to verify your site or something like that.
 
Oh, I see what you're saying.
You need to get SSL certificate for your site to have an extended favicon like that.
 
It's not really extended, if it wasn't FF or (I think) IE, it wouldn't show up. And it would show up in different ways in those browsers. Other browsers may just give you a lock icon, or nothing at all. So, it's not quite extended in the meaning of it. A favicon can only be a certain size.
 
Right. I just checked and IE doesn't display anything, except for having "https" address.
Opera displays lock icon at the end of address bar.
 
Exactly. This SSL status display next to the address bar is unique to FF. Just checked Chrome, it shows a green lock and the https prefix is marked in green.
Though I must admit it would be a cool favicon :D
