Narrowed it down to two! DV1000 and ZV6000

So, I dropped the idea of getting the hp vd8000...not good enough battery life, hot...no need for it. I have narrowed it down to these two hp computers...What are your recommendations? I want to go ahead and get it ordered but want to be sure which to get! The main difference is pentium m vs amd...

What I will use it for is college (go in the fall)...and of course I will play a few games. Not constantly, but the couple I play require a good computer whenever I do play them. And then basically just sitting around playing on the internet and talking.

HP DV1000 customized $1,368
-XP Pro
-Pentium M 740 (1.73 ghz)
-14" widescreen brightview wxga
-1 gb ram (2x512)
-60 gb hd 5400
-dvdrw cdrw combo
-intel graphics media accelerator 900 pentium (anyone know if this is ok...there aren't other choices)
-wireless internet w/ bluetooth
-12 cell battery
-remote control
-HP PSC 1410 printer

HP ZV6000 customized $1,247
-XP Pro
-AMD 64 3500+ (2.2 ghz / 512 cache)
-15.4" WXGA brightview widescreen
-128 mb ATI radeon xpress 200m w/ hypermemory
-1 gb ram (2x512)
-60 gb hd 5400
-dvdrw cdrw combo
-wireless internet w/bluetooth
-12 cell battery (x2...since I figure the battery won't last as long..)
-HP PSC 1410 printer

Which one would you all recommend I go with? I don't know too much about this new pentium m or centrino or whatever all it is for notebooks, nor do I know much about amd (ive always been using pentium 4 myself...for desktops only)..so...it comes down to that, the battery life, and the graphics card. The DV1000 doesn't have any other options for the graphics card, I havent seen many of the pentium M's that had other options for the card...

dv is for watching movies and stuff. so if you are not gonna use the remote and stuff like that go with the zv6.

Yea, the card is integrated and I read some reviews and they said the card wasnt anything special for games but worked ok for dvds... You were right, it is basically a laptop for lots of dvd usage from what I read....I went with the other.

u cant play games on integrated video cards unless its like solitaire.

my other laptop that plays cs:source has identical specs as those but with a radeon 9000 64 mb card only cost 800$.

wait are you getting a laptop or desktop?

zv6000 because 64-bit, and the ati 200m gfx are better than the dv's intel gma900. Might be less battery life, but not by much. Centrinos don't use that much less battery life, perhaps lighter though.

it wont matter much since it doesnt come with x64 os and unless he's going to shell out 100+ for the same os that is 64bit.

any computer with a 12 cell is bad news. its most likely a desktop processor put into a laptop. 2 hours if your disable everything and just let your computer sit in idle with the monitor turned off. 6 cell on a centrino = 4 to 5 hours. centrino is just a combination between pentium M processor, i855 chipset, and intel pro wireless. the cpu fluctuates its speed to save battery life.

that top computer, my gf has the exact same setup on a gateway. plays nba live 2005 like crapping in a portapotty. the players look like boxes.

if you want good battery life along with a good enough video card to play games you need a dedicated video card along with pentium M.

look for back to school deals around august as well. you can save 200 - 300$ more.

HP ZV6000 customized definatly, IMO a better laptop and a bit cheaper. :) Thats what i would get if i was given the coice of the two. better video card, bigger screen, I think comparing the two CPU's the AMD 3500+ would be better too. I think everything about that laptop would be better.

I think they should create some sort of wireless powersupply :) that would solve this battery life crap but that wont happen :) I suggest find an outlet and then just do whatever for hours on end.

I ended up getting the ZV6000. The recommended options when customizing it says a 6 cell (or maybe 8 cell) battery is recommended, but after I read a couple reviews the only really complaint some people had was battery life. Since it was cheaper than the DV1000, I decided to get a 12 cell, and an extra 12 cell. Most of the time I will be near an outlet anyways I believe.

Also, I didn't get it with exactly the specs I listed. Instead I got 1 gb of ram instead of 512 ( I think before I listed 512). I'm not sure which AMD I had listed, but I got AMD 64 3500+. for the 3800+ it added like 100 or 200$.

Also, I upgraded the dvd burner to one with lightscribe as well.

The rest is the same I believe.

from what he needs it for he doesn't need 1 gb of ram. he's going to rarely play games and as long as you don't run 3 games at once you're fine.

but I will play games sometimes and when I do I want them to play great :) Since I was customizing the whole thing anyways, I decided to go with 1 gb of ram. It is meant to be a computer for school, but honestly I feel that it will be used more for playtime than schoolwork...lol
