Nasty Virus

OK... I know I am a Newbie... but I have issues and I need help

Compaq Presario 3000 Laptop384MB Ram Intel Processor.

I had Norton Virus running, but when I had to redo my hard drive, I forgot to put it back on and my computer has been running for 6 months without it.

Last Thursday I bought Norton Virus 95 and installed and did the virus check that day.... The scan was complete and it found no viruses.

Last Friday, I had some friends over with their kids.... The next thing I know the kids were in my office checking out some Russian porn sites on the net.

I did a virus scan right away... but I got a Blue Screen saying that I had a Hardware or Software Device Problem.

When I re-booted, the hard drive churned and it took 5 minutes for it to reboot. I tried to do a system restore to the point after I installed Norton but after the kids came over.... didn't work

I tried the safe mode and MSCONFIG to do the minimum startup... no help

Then I put in my Windows Master disk... and it said that my Windows was a newer version than the disk and it would erase everything.

I then booted from the Masterdisk and my computer would turn off just when it asks me if I wanted to restore the system.

Then.... when I rebooted again... My computer seem to reset itself to when I bought it... So the original windows background replace mine. I had the box on the system tray asking if I wanted a tour of Windows and such.

Most of my icons on my desktop was removed, all my internet shortcuts were removed... My program still ran... but it asked for registration info... Like I was running it for the first time.

My data still appears to be in tact...

I checked the system restore again... and now all my restore points were gone

I seems that someone is connected to my computer, and it is foiling every attempt to restore my system.

Has anyone seen this before?

That seems like you logged in under a new user...

As for the rest.. please do the steps in the sticky and then post back and let us know how things are going. We'll go from there... :)

I just figured that out when I looked in the Desktop file and all my icon were there...

I am talking to Norton Support.... the online system scan didn't work so I had to download a hijack program on another computer and run it on the bad one.... The log didn't provide any malicous programs

I will also try the stuff in the sticky... thanks
