need a cooler computer.

I just bought a geforce 7600 gs, and now I need my comp to run a little cooler. I bought a manufactured comp, (yeah shame on me) and it only has one spot for a fan on the back. I was thinking about buying a pci fan to cool the graphics card and an exhaust fan. With the pci fan, would it be better to blow air on the card, or exhaust the air away from it (sounds funny to me because heat rises). Also I believe my case is only able to equip an 80mm fan for exhaust, there is not a fan there now, just a place to put one (is that as simple as measuring from screw hole to screw hole?). Also my psu has an exhaust fan, but I am assuming that is really only for the heat that is created from the psu. My side panel has many holes it it to let air in if that is any help. I have no available 5.25 or 3.5 slots for a cooler up front.

does your comp have room for a intake fan in front, if so putting a fan in front and the back would improve your airflow throughout the case. For your gpu though, especially if it just has a heatsink on it you want the fan blowing air onto your gpu to cool the heatsink down.

No space for a fan up front, just a small vent on the bottom. as for the size of the case fan?
Well most likely its an 80mm fan, but to be sure, I would measure from hole to hole, (not diagonal) and see how big it is, becuase it will be about as wide and the diameter of the fan.

well thank you for the help. so from what I gather. blow air on the grapics card heatsink will work better, rather then sucking the air out from under the card, just as I suspected.

Yup, becuase sucking it away will not get as direct or as strong of an airflow over the heatsink, and it would suck the air down so that the heat can rise right back up.

well another question. my power supply I just got has one hell of an exhaust fan. My pci fan works wonders at keeping my gpu at an idle temp of 45 c and a load temp of 59 c. So with my new case fan, should I still set that as an exhaust fan or rather an intake on the back? As stated before I have no place for an intake fan on the front of the case. Here is the picture of the case..

my computer looks empty compared to yours...the fans of it dont even have to work that hard

did you make that pci fan?
That is what I was just wondering. If you did what did you make it out of, a fan and what is that just like stiff cardboard?

And keep you rear fan as a exhaust you do not want it as an intake or you will have almost zero airflow. In the front of your case do you have an holes for air to come in. If you do you could use something like that pci fan to hold a fan up in the front of the case to get an intake. Right now it just seems you have too much air going out and not enough coming in. Oh and try and tuck some of those cables out of the way if you can, it will help a little.

basically is what it is, hard plastic with a hole for the fan. connect to the metal plate for a pci slot, works very well. three vents on the side of the case, and a small vent on the front bottom face.

Well if there is a way to make sure you have a good enough vent in the front, maybe make the hole a little bigger or something, I would try and set up a fan in the front, may take a little modding but... What case do you have anyway?

So you made the pci fan yourself, may have to try that sometime.

hey man if you are in to modding, you can do heaps of stuff to keep the components cool. though that would void warranty

i tried setting a large fan the size of my case up against the side, and it lowERED the temps by like 16C. lol... how hot is your gpu getting anyways?

:P , lovely it sounds like you need to improve the airflow in your case too, do you have any case fans?

well like the quote says, gpu has only gotten to 59 c on load. my cpu has gotten to 42 c. and my hard drives have gotten up to 45, but average 42, I know that is good, but Perhaps I want to get a little cooler.

You're not gonna get much better then that, especially for your gpu and cpu. However you hdd are gonna have to stay at those temps unless you do some major modding. There is no way to get a fan in fron of your hard drives, since they are up higher and there is no room in front of them. Most cases that you buy have the option for a fan in front of the hard drives since they are down lower, however since your is a compaq they built it without that option. So your only option to cool your hard drives is move them and have a fan in front of them with a vent in the front of the case, or buy hard drive coolers. Neither which are very good options.
