Need a lookover on my planned build

Got most of what I want planned out, need someone to look over the parts and make sure I haven't overlooked something. Also I do need a recommendation on a Power Supply, preferably modular. The case I'm not too sure of yet, but I figure that it will be the last case I buy for a long time, it's very customizable and that's a big factor.

I'd appreciate any feedback on either compatibility or known issues or problems with any of these. The GPU's are still up in the air but I have it narrowed down to those 2. Also after looking at the supported memory list for that MB it says that the 2G sticks but not the 4G sticks of G.Skill are compatible, should I just get 2 sets of the 4GB(2 x 2GB) or stick with the 8GB(2x4GB)? Thanks for any and all input.
 
Looks pretty good...Whats the build price?and what kinda PSU are yu gonna use? Id suggest Corsair, XFX, the nicer brands.

I believe the 8gb 4x2 will work in that motherboard. It was the one I was going to purchase until I saw the crosshair iv formula at Fry's and I could not pass it up. Haha.

I thought that the RAM would be ok, thanks for the confirmation. So far the build price is around $1200 without the DVD drives, OS or PSU. I was hoping someone could suggest a PSU, I haven't done a build in about 5 or 6 years so I'm a little out of date and not even sure about the wattage range I would need.

That Crosshair IV looks amazing, I think I may have to go with that one instead...lol. On top of all the awesomeness to it, it would look amazing with that case, seeing as it's mesh and the components are visible it would add some flare!

Also I've been looking at Win 7, what's the difference between the regular and System Builder packs? Do I need one over the other or does it matter?

I would just be on the safe side and go with the 750 BE its amazing.

This will also grant room for future upgrades to the system.
 
7 oem means non transferable to a diff motherboard, basically.

I gave a couple questions?
Do you plan to run 2 GPU's at some point? The fx is made for that, however the mb is crossfire, not sli for 2 560's. This also has a bearing on the PSU watts/amps you may want.


Consider 1600 memory, 2x4gb is better than 4x2gb.. consider WDB FAEX 1tb or AAEX 640, they both have 64mb cashe.
 
I've never had a need or desire to SLI/Crossfire but I would like to leave the option open. More than likely I'd just wait till the next GPU upgrade but it may be smarter to go with a Radeon card just in case. I do have a month or so before I'm able to order everything so I've got time to really do the research and make the final choice. I have decided for sure though that I'm going with the ASUS Crosshair IV Formula MB, so a Radeon card would probably be smarter either way. I just don't have any experience with any vid cards other than Nvidia, so when it comes to AMD/ATI cards I just don't know what's what.

I thought I linked the 1600 RAM, oops...lol. Good catch, I would have been upset ordering that by mistake. Probably will go with the 2 x 4GB, thanks for the info on that. I figured the Win 7 OEM kit was a one time shot, thanks for verifying.

Good call on the HDD's too, I think the 1tb is the way to go. The HDD I had listed was a filler until I finalized the rest of my build and saw how much $ I had to work with.

I think Manakore is right and the 750w is the way to go, it's best to have that extra power available for the future.

See, this is why I posted my build, I was hoping smarter and more experienced people would point me in the right direction. Thanks very much guys.
 
imo, the 1100 isn't worth the extra $ for .1ghz

Yeah, you need 1 with around 600W, most newer GPU's have better power saving features, but its still good to have extra, especially if your gonna get 1 more card to SLI. :)
 
A modular PSU is a definite must, I despise having all those extra wires and plugs hanging around. When it comes to my computer I am a bit of a neat freak, the cleaner and more organized the better. I was looking at the XFX BE 750w PSU, the Corsair is on my short list. It's probably better to have that extra bit so I can leave the option open for SLI/Xfire.

I've thought about a SSD boot drive, but I have never had more than one HDD, no experience with Raid or anything. Is it at all complicated to set up 2 internal drives? I'm assuming it's kind of like having an external that's used just for storage and installs, or am I over simplifying? If I did end up going for a SSD boot drive, how many Gigs would I actually need?

I've been looking into Win 7 and from what I've read and seen, it seems that the 64 bit version isn't really worth it. Some have said that if you have 4GB or more RAM then to go with 64 bit, otherwise stick with 32 bit. Others say that the majority of programs still run in 32 bit anyways so what's the point of getting the 64 bit version. Also is there any reason to go with a full version over the OEM? It's not like I'm going to install it on other comps so I might as well save the cash and get the system builder pack.

60gb seems to be the going small boot drive for SSD. Windows is about 16 i think, ultimate is 20. It isnt hard to relocate some folder storage in 7 to a secondary HDD. Typically only the programs that you would want, or would benifit from the extra speed would go on there. It takes a little time initially to get it managed like you want, but not hard.
Definately 64 bit,very worth it. For 1 thing 32 bit won't use more than about 3.5gb RAM not matter how much is installed. 64 will use it all. OEM is full version, and you cam reinsatll to same computer/mb if needed. The retial version just means you can have it one 1 computer at a time, regardless the computer/mb.(unless you have a key for more than 1 pc)

I completely overlooked the fact that the 32 bit version would only recognize and utilize 3.5GB of RAM, that makes it a no brainer for me, thanks. It's nice to know about the SSD boot drive, I'll definitely consider going that way. When I get it built I'll probably be coming here to ask for some tips and advice.

@ maroon--I'm not an Intel man, AMD has never let me down and always exceeded my expectations so I prefer to stick with them, thanks for the suggestion though.
