Need a new desktop - college

Hi,

My daughter needs a new desktop computer for college. She will only be using this computer for reports, some spreadsheets, and possibly some "light" Photoshop projects - no gaming. I asked her about a laptop, but she would prefer a desktop. As for a monitor, she already has a pretty good flat screen. I am considering the following (2) units.

They appear to be similar in price and specs (at least to me).

I'm going to make a major suggestion and suggest a business grade Dell Optiplex instead of an Inspiron. My reason for this is your daughter will need the machine constantly and it needs to work for her always. But, if it should fail, she'll need it up and running as soon as possible.

Now, the Optiplex line is very durable, much more so than the Inspiron. Each one comes with a standard 3 year warranty, and you can even upgrade to a higher level one for not too much money ( 3 years Pro support & on-site repair is only $79). The extra warranty is worth it should she ever have issues because the business line tech support is so much better than the support used for the Inspiron lines (India) You'll actually talk to someone from the US and they'll help you out immediately.

The Optiplex series also starts out at a low price and you can customize it to your needs. They are really great machines and I swear by the business line of Dell, as I sell off-lease Optiplex (Optiplexi? lol) in my computer shop. They also come in three different case sizes (Standard, Slim, and Small Form Factor)
