Hello all,
I need a new laptop for graduate school (public health); I need something that works well with a wireless system and is light to take to campus..I am looking at under 1500..any thoughts? (I am a PC user). These are my school recommendations:

Windows 2000 or Windows XP Pro
1.8 GHz or faster (laptop) --processor speed
256 Megabytes(Laptop) --Memory/RAM
20 Gigabytes or bigger --hard disk drive
CDRW or CDRW/DVD
10baseT ethernet card
56k internal or external
3 year on-site parts and repairs minimum warranty

I was looking at Dell Inspiron 600m, but was concerned at the ease of use of the laptops? Thanks for any ideas! t.

Well I could pretty much assure you that any laptop you buy these days will exceed those specs. The warranty may be a different story. I bought a laptop from circuit city with an extended warranty for like 200 bucks for a few years, so far they've just replaced a bad battery, but it's there when you need it. I don't see why you need protection from "drops" or "coffee spills" but hey that's me. I got a special book-bag with a laptop slot, and it was fine for the university life...

Do you have a list of programs you will be running? Will you just be using this laptop for notes in class? Those are the important questions. In general I think people don't need to spend so much on laptops (unless you really need to). I'd rather have a cheap laptop for work in class, and a nice powerful PC for the real work at home...

hey

I am really not sure what this laptop will be used for--i know i will be bringing it to class a lot b/c i noted that's what the students do when i went to visit. plus i am going away to school so this will be my only computer for the whole year...t.
