Need a new PC game.

I played RS about a year ago. I quit because I got sick of all the crap it in and handed off my account to my little bro. I've tried the WoW trial and it was not fully impressed. (Also I do not want to have to pay 20 bucks a month). Does anybody know of any good MMO games that don't require you to have to pay a monthly fee but that last a goodwhile and are modern (i.e. not crappy graphics like runescape.) A friend of mine said guildwars was alright....I'm just lookin for some opinions. I really want something I can get into and enjoy.
 
For a little while i played a game called Knight Online which was pretty good. I think its free to download also and unless its changed since i played u dont have to pay a monthly fee or whatever.
 
Yeah i heard of nights online but couldn't be bothed to download a 500mb game that i dont no if anyone plays it. Its still free but if you give them 5 bucks you get bonuses. :P
