Need a new PC,whats a all around good one to get?

I know hardly nothing of computers although I had one for many year, lol
But I have had this dell for almost 10years now,so needless to say Im ready for a new one!
I took a walk through microcenter to look around and have no idea what im looking for,so maybe someone could help.
So first off I dont do much with my cpu's long ago on my other pc I use to game a lot then got this one and played some games up untill it wouldn't run any games as my system couldnt keep up with them, since then I just play xbox for online games, but looking to get back into pc games.
So id there a all around good pc for games and general use,im looking to spend around $500-$600 but no way can I go over $1,000.

My friend is also a IT person and mentioned long ago he could just build me one,is this a better bet? But when you build one dont you have to by some sort of windows for a O.S? and that alone is around $200 right? Like I said I dont really know about this stuff,so if someone could tell me what might be better or recommend a decent pc for me i'd appreciate it!

Building is the way to go, and the windows is 100, but those are locked to the motherboard and only 1 use, the 200 buck one is transferable/re-usable.

I was reading on here about the $500 pc mag build,So that would be the way to go then? plus add the extra $100 for windows?
How hard is it to build one, like I said my friend will help or do it for me "im sure for a small fee  " but there is more then just buying these things and plugging them together right?

not really. A computer is just a desk in a box. If you can read or listen to directions, you can pt one together (assuming you have zip ties and a screwdriver).

Really you don't even need instructions, it's like a really simple puzzle, they fit together, then a few screws and you're done, then just install windows.

And it's recomended to spend all you can from the beginning, otherwise you'll be selling and upgrading pretty soon.

We normally recommend a list ourselves, the ones on the internet tend to use less than desired parts that aren't necessarily as reliable, although they do normally recommend good parts.

Do you think someone could come up with a list for me?
I mostly use the computer to do some ebaying, youtube, forums,"average web surfing" I do tend to store a lot of pics and vids "mostly pics"
I would also like to get back into some gaming,I am so far out of the loop of gaming I couldnt even begin to tell you what I would be running.

It seems like a pretty good deal to me too. I would also ask what the power supply is in that build. I would imagine it would be at least decent, but it never hurts to check.

Also: If you decide to go for it, I would try to get free shipping.

The guy lives 15 mins from me so there will be no shipping.
I just got off the phone with the guy,he seemed real honest and told me about it "although I dont know what he was saying as im not real into pc's"
But he said it will have no problems running pretty much any game to date at 1080p and has pretty good memory/ram?

He said he will install a fresh version of windows 7 to make sure it is all updated.
My question is,is this something im going to get and have to upgrade or will this be good to go for a while?
I was pricing the stuff on new egg that is in this unit and the price was close to $1000 to buy all this new,but some things said out of stock or unavailable,so does that mean these are outdated and no longer for sale?

Do you see any problems updating this unit for what ever I may need?

I also asked about the price he said he might come down,I can most likely get it for $550,Think I can get anything better or more up to date for the price or close to this?

Issue one that will need an upgrade if you want to run max at 1080p would be the GPU. The 5770 is a low end gaming card. 6870 or above or GTX560 or above would be a good upgrade.

Next up would be the motherboard and CPU. They will last for 2-3 years, but after that you will need an upgrade to a live socket. 1156 is dead.

Your golden on RAM with it though. 8GB is more than most games need.

It looks to be a stock cooler, so if you upgrade that you will be able to overclock the processor and extend life and performance.

So as it stands now,Just a simple upgrade of a better grfx card and it will run games to the max?
So all and all you wouldnt consider $550-$575 a rip off?
