Need a resolution expert!

So i have a 720p 32" samsung HDTV. I have had this hooked up to my computer for a while with no problems.

I recently purchased Bad Company 2, which i could not play unless i updated the drivers for my 8800GT. (graphic glitches)

When the drivers were updated, my Nvidia control panel was also updated. But now when i use the NVIDIA control panel to set my resolution to 720p, the desktop extends further on all sides. (the task bar is half below my screen).

i can fix this by using the "Adjust Desktop" feature in the control panel, but as soon as i resize my desktop, the resolution is now 1232 x 684. (Should be 1280 x 720).

This sucks when i go to play BC2 because the closest native resolution i can use in the game is 1280 x 720, which extends the game about a half inch beyond all sides of my screen.

Does anyone know a fix for this?

i can roll back my drivers but that leaves me unable to play Bad Company 2!:(

looked over the Nvidia Control panel thoroughly, could not find anything about overscanning.

Checked the windows display options.. couldnt find anything about overscanning.

checked my hdtv options, didnt see anything about overscan :/

I googled your card and overscan, and it seems to be a major problem. There are posts on tons of fourms all over the internet about people with your card and connecting it to a TV and having overscan. The best I could find at a glance is this: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=90768

You could try that, or google and see what you find.
[EDIT] Doesn't seem to have the link correctly.

Try this file for that if you want. http://nvidia.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/nvidia.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=2064

Thanks for searching.

i also came across this website on my hunt to fix this problem.

But i'm not sure if that download compensates for overscale just on the desktop, or with all applications. (if it's just the desktop, Nvidia Control can resize my desktop to 1232 x 684).

Looking for a fix that will allow me to set my resolution to 720p and it will fit perfectly with my HDTV. So i can play games and what not without that overscale

annoying problem!

Well, as a last resort, you could try putting it over VGA. I don't really notice much of a difference between DVI and VGA, personally. It seems like the problem only applies when it's over DVI, right?
