I need some good ram that would work with the EVGA 680i mobo. I would be using an e6600 for the CPU and would be looking to get some good overclocks. My budget would be around 100-200. If anyone would sell me it used I would appreciate it Thanks
According to the product details and specifications seen at http://www.evga.com/articles/329.asp on that model board you have a choice of either 533, 667, or DDR2 800 memory you can easily run. The better makes like Kingston, Corsair, Crucial, Mushkin, OCZ, and a few others are the brand names to look at. The type whether performance or value memory will depend on the type of build you are planning. Are you going to be ocing and/or heavily gaming or just the occasional alien blast and mostly desktop applications?
Generally you would never need over 2gb of memory even for a gaming build. The prices on DDR2 performance memory will climb as expected. The one constant in the pc universe is memory costing more then other things. Most are just trying to decide between the slower speeds like 533 and 667mhz while you are going for memory above the 800mhz mark there. Kingston and OCZ with the later being far more pricey as usual would give you 1gb DDR2 900 dimms for the $200 or less mark unless you would go with a pair of 512mb dimms.
Corsair is a good old gaming memory. I ran a pair of 512s on the old built here before getting a buy on the 2gb of Kingston in use now. I noticed that newegg marked up the HyperX Kingston offers. Like mail in rebates? A good deal on HyperX is seen at http://www.mwave.com/mwave/viewspec.hmx?scriteria=BA22962
