Need a suggestion

For one you will have to work out a budget for the total price for the new build before anyone can point the best deals for a gaming build. Of the three models there the 3500+ has seen good results for a single core model. But even though it is the faster of the three models it still lacks when considering the FX models will outperform it any day of the week.

At this time newegg was out of the 3800+ X2 dual core model cpu apparently while having the single core 2.4ghz model seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103531

For the few dollars more if you are not planning to oc that is a slight step up from the 2.2ghz 3500+ model. The real gaming dual core model going for $155 at the moment is the 4200+ X2 seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103543 For the extra cash there this one is referred to in the Computer Specs 101 sticky found at http://www.computerforum.com/37635-computer-specs-101-a.html

I would just go for the 3500 for 74 bucks, the difference unlike what PC Eye said is the 3400 is 2.2ghz too, but it runs with a 800mhz HT instead of the 1000mhz HT that the 3500 runs with!

well pc eye, i have sort of set a budget of more or less 500$. I posted a thread in hope of finding some good ideas under the "desktop computer" forum and i was suggested the 3400+ and I went and looked a bit more and I saw those^ and decided that if one of them was significantly better than the other, I would be willing to spend the extra few dollars.

Your biggest obsticle will be the video card and memory for a gaming build for that price range. A pair of 512mb performance dimms will run about $125 for a good make. The 3500+ is easily the best of the three regardless of some background noise. A good performance video card will easily match the price of the memory totalling 50% of the overall cost. You still have the board, drives, and case to hand pick on top of the cpu cost.

I see you edited your post about sayin the 3400 was 1.6 ghz!

At least I correct any typos when spotted. For you all I ever hear is "background noise".

bout ur signature....
"windows xp would be nice."
right now, thats all u can get. what else?

XP isn't the only OS out. Vista has the 1/30/2007 date set. That's the end of this month. Or you can download a Linux distro if you don't prefer Mac or OS X.
