Need advice: designing racks

Hi all,

I’m here to get some suggestion to buy or design a server rack for my home. Now I’m using a small room to accommodate all the networking stuffs. Recently I found a pic of a rack mount server(https://s17.postimg.org/4sl5ncyhb/Rack.jpg) that is stuffed into a small space of a room. I searched online to find some racks like this. I discussed with my friend who is a system administrator and suggested me to check with a sheet metal fabricator (http://www.bayviewmetals.com/sample-work/telecommunications-rack-mount-equipment/) to design a rack that suits my room. Has anyone tried racks in their room? Please share your experience. Waiting for your reply.

Thanks in advance.

That looks more like an A/V rack than a data one. Nonetheless they usually use the same dimension and RU spacing.

It'd probably just be easier to buy a 42U rack and stuff it in a closet.

You'd really, really, really need to plan on some HVAC and have a cooling and electricity strategy.
