need advice on purchasing a new comp.

my ghetto dell is crapping out on me and i want to buy a new one. my budget is around $1000 i have been looking at a xps 410. i do gaming, video, music. i just want to know if there is anything out there that is better for the money. i was thinking about building a computer but my dad doesnt want to (something about not having a warranty)

The parts would have warranty, but each warranty would be different, but the gain from getting a custom build is that you get a lot more for your $
 
okay, ill talk to my dad and try to pursuade him. my only problems with building a computer is what cpu and motherboard should i get? i want to run vista.
 
im pretty sure he will let me build it. i just need some recomendations for parts im pretty new to all this.

600W rather than 520 just to be safe...i imagine u'd be ok with 520 tho....someone can correct me if otherwise
 
You could overclock with the corsair fine, is a quality unit otherwise i wouldn't have bother to recommend it, no hNic, the unit i suggest is far more powerful than most 600 watts models out there
