need advice on purchasing desktop PC

I am considering purchasing a computer from the following website.

Specifically, I am thinking about purchasing this no-OS PC and install a linux distro (ubuntu or fedora) onto it.

My questions are,
1. Has anyone purchased computers or items from these online discount computer shops? If you have, or have heard anyone use the service, could you share your experience? I just need a cheap PC that satisfies my needs, and I am not looking for a computer that I can use for five years. I hope it doesn't break down, but If it does breaks down next year, that is okay.

2. What are the things I need to consider or be careful about to make sure I can install a linux distro without any problems? I understand I need to make sure the hardware parts, including the CPU, graphics, network cards, .etc are compatible. I'd like to know what are the likelihoods of successfully having the machine running. I am thinking maybe I should reconfigure it to include an intel or another top brand motherboard since I heard those are the ones that will give you the least trouble. Also, if I find that the network or video adapter is incompatible, is it possible to replace it with another one, using the expansion slots?

3. Is a single core CPU (e.g. pentium 4, 3.6GHz) as fast as a dual-core CPU (.etc core 2) when it comes to running single threaded applications? I am going to use this computer mainly for software development (c++ programming, compiling, gcc, .etc), not for applications like video or audio steaming that will likely benefit from having more than one core.

Thank you for reading my post.

Hopefully no one will never do that. Cheapo computers = Crappy and unreliable.

A motherboard has its own RJ-45 port. No way a GFX is incompatible. Drivers can be though.
