Need advice on upgrading

Ok here's the situation. One year ago I bought a Dell XPS 400. Pentium D dual core 2.8GHz, 1GB ram. Radeon X600 Hyper memory GPU. Windows XP, 160GB hard drive, DVD burner.

When I bought it my plan was to upgrade my GPU at some point in the future. I think Id now like to go all out and buy a 8800GTX. Only problem is I didnt know that there are limitations coming from your Power Supply. Turns out my power supply is 375W, which is insufficient.

So what do I do now? If I buy a new power supply, then the power supply, 8800GTX, plus future copy of Vista seems like it would cost about 900 dollars.

Am I better off just selling my current desktop and buying a brand new one?

How much is my current desktop worth (it's in perfect condition)?

Any other recommendations?

Finally, if I buy a new PC, what would be a good option for under $2000?

Isn't 900$ the psu, graphic card and vista but is near it, you're better off buying a new one.

Not a lot but i would say around 550$ or so.

Build it yourself, is the best way to evade upgrade problems aka dell psu problems case size etc.

I f you really want a great PC build it yourself with up grades in mind. Pick a format, and stick with it! AMD or Intel... the new stuff is due July 22. Think serious about what you want the macheen to do,then there are hundreds of ppl in this forum to help u thru the build and all the technicallities with a smile GL

Welcome to the CF

The main thing I want to know is whether I really should sell my one year old PC and build a new one, rather than upgrading the old one. And if so, how much should I try to sell the old one for?

Take a look at my thread...building yourself is definitely the way to go if you want good performance under 2k.

Mine, including shipping (off of newegg, best site to shop online), comes out at just over $1500. This way, since 2k seems to be your budget, you can upgrade a couple components and come out with what you seem to want. I might go with the 8800gtx, better psu, and maybe a different mobo. That will allow plenty of upgradeability for the future, and a very cheap price for the performance you'll get.
As for selling your old pc, I don't know. How much did you pay for it?
