Hey everyone!.. new to this forum.. having trouble getting help everywhere else.. okay check it out.. I'm big into audio production and I recently built a computer to fit my needs because my old one could not keep up with my imagination.. so I built it.. lets call it "custom audio rig" and I had so many issues with it, from starting up to it freezing to just all kinds of mess... so I'm on a deadline shcedule so I figured it was just a bad installation of windows.. so I formatted and reinstalled and still the same issues.. except this time I couldnt get certain virtual instruments and plugins to install... at this point i became very frutstaited and needed a computer. its been 2-3 weeks since I've been able to produce and mix my tracks.. so I went out and bought a certified refurbished gateway I was told about from this computer store down town. Runs fine very fast.. I havnn't got a chance to see how well it does with mixing because I have to obtain a new copy of my software because I beilive my current disc is corrupted. SO! I'm left with 2 comptuers and I was wondering if anyone could tell me which one would give me better performance for my field, or which they would sell. Here are the specs and how much I paid:

"Custom Audio Rig" $800ish
-Asus p5SLI MB
-500 Power supply
-INTEL 2.4G Dualcore
-1GB RAM
-320 GB Western Digital HD
-250 GB Western Digital HD

Recently Bought Gateway $500ish
-2.8G Intel Pentium D processor 820 (viiv)
-2G Ram
-250GB Hard Drive

Which computer do you think would have better performance and speed for my field (audio production)(ignore the hard drive space for I can upgrade) lol.. Need to know which to sell.. thank you for all of your help!

So the custom computer I built is faster?.. i thought the Gateway's processor is faster then the one i built

Yea thats the processor Intel E6600 2.4G 775... how much faster is the computer then the gate way.. is it a noticible diffrence do you think?.. I'm kind of leaning toward keeping the gateway because of reliability...

The custom one is significantly better than your other one. The gateway was probably considered good a year or more ago, the e6600 was top of the line 2-3 months ago and now, its still a great product quite close to the top. However reliabily is so much more effective than speed IMHO, so I would maybe have someone look at it to see where the problem is, because it seems it has some hardware problems.

I would post the details of each parts of your custom build, so that we(not me) could look at it and maybe find where the problem lies. Maybe I would also improve it by adding another gb of ram.

Thanks for all of your help.. I've decided to stick with the custom rig I built.. things seem to be running fine on them now.. I'm going to go ahead and sell the gateway and eventually get another gig of ram for the custom build. Thanks again!... i just installed norton ghost.. ive herd that can be of some help

ghost is a great application to use after u have installed all your necessary programs....anything messes up ghost to the rescue
