Hi, I'm Charlie.

For a long time I have been a console gamer that wanted to head into computer Gaming. I think now the time has come and I need a new computer, seeing as mine is new about 6 years old, an it wasn't great then.

I have been researching computers for about a month now and have been collecting knowledge from all over the internet and talking to people in various shops and such. The overriding advice that I have been given is, "The more you spend, the better you get, and also the longer it will generally last."
I have about £200 at the moment, but I won't be getting a new computer till after Christmas, and by that point I will have somewhere around £400.

I do a lot of photography and through this I work a lot with software like Photoshop so as well as gaming the computer needs to work tasks like this efficiently. I do multi task on my computer, for example, I work on Photoshop while listening to music while on the internet. I have a HDTV in my room wich like to watch TV on the internet on, I want to be able to stream in 720p - 1080p.

Here are the questions I have:

1. What is the best amount of money to spend on a computer if I wan't to be able to play new games?

2. Is it viable to buy a refurbished Pc and improve it?

3. I know that shop generally have after Christmas sales, does this happen with computer parts?

4. should I be able to achieve what I want for under £300? (I know I said I would have 400, but I don't want to have to spend every penny I have.)

Thanks for your time :)

With a decent one, you would be talking about > £550 for the tower & OS if you build it yourself

2. Is it viable to buy a refurbished Pc and improve it?
Not recommend unless you know exactly what you are looking for.

3. I know that shop generally have after Christmas sales, does this happen with computer parts?
Not I am aware of if you build it yourself.

4. should I be able to achieve what I want for under £300? (I know I said I would have 400, but I don't want to have to spend every penny I have.)
Entry level gaming pc would be around £350 - 400 (tower including OS), provided you build it yourself.
Come back when you have money, and we could suggest what exactly you can get at that time

Thanks a lot for the advice.

That's what i thought would be said. I will try and work more so i can get a bit more money, and when i have more, i'll come back! :)
