Ok i think i made my mind up and im going for a Barebone Kit. Would u agree with me since im just starting out with custom pc's and stuff. What do u usually get with a barebone kit. I found one with Case, Power Supply, AMD 64 bit 3400+ (2000 MHz front side bus), and a 512 mb DDR of ram. Do u think this mother board is good tho

Abit AV8 VIA Socket 939 ATX Motherboard

Well i hope u can answer some of my questions thanks

I know that there was some words about the 3400 coming as a Socket939 but to my knowledge that never materialized. As such, the 3400+ you've got there with a 2000MHz "front side bus" is really a 1600MHz one and is socket754 (which means you need a different motherboard)

Im quite aware of that however Ive not been able to positively locate such a processor which is why i suggested the possibility that it was a fizzle project.

I have yet to see the 3400+ in a socket 939 also. I build shuttles all day long, and have had numerous requests for that CPU. In 939, the CPU jumps from 3200+ to 3500+, with nothing in between.

A quick word from AMD:

Yes, the Athlon XP 3400+ CPU exists from AMD. However, this processor is a limited production
item at this time and is only sold as an OEM processor. There are no specifications available
for this chip at this time. Please consult with the vendor selling it for information they may
have.

Hope this helps. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me.
