Need Antivirus for very slow Lap Top

I’m going on a month long cross-country trip and I’m taking an Asus Eee PC with Win 7 so that I have something to do while in transit.

I also have a tablet, but it’s too hard for me to use without a keyboard and mouse. Plus I don’t want to pay excess data fees so I’ll be using free Wi-Fi services whenever available.

The Asus Eee is about as small as I want to go but doesn’t have much memory and is really super slow. Plus it will not be a great lose if stolen.

So I’m looking for a light weight free Antivirus program that will not bog down the laptop any more then what it is already, any suggestions?

Unfortunately, if its already slow,(most likely because of the low ram issue) adding a antivirus program will only make it slower. They usually only have 1 or 2gb of ram and a low end processor. If you feel you really need to run one you could run the trial period of malwarebytes. It will give you 14 days of active protection. Are you careful on what sites you visit and don't open any suspicious emails? All it really takes is a good head on your shoulders and you really don't need to run an antivirus program.

Hi John, I’m usually pretty careful about where I go and usually only on forums that I’m a member of except for when I’m searching for information and then I have no idea where I may end up.

The thing that I’m worried about is when I’m on unsecured Wi-Fi connections in Airports, train stations, and hotel rooms. I don’t have any personal or important information on this laptop except for passwords to forums I go to.

I do not know what may happen if someone accesses my computer, but I think I could pick up something if their computer is compromised. I guess I could run the virus and malware removal programs you have listed here when I get home before connecting to my home network.

I only use this computer when I’m traveling and for listening to Pandora at home in my garage. Although it is connected to my home network when I’m listening to Pandora so I do want it to be safe at home unless I can lock it out from my other network computers.

I myself wouldn't be too worried about it. I tend to think people are way overly worried that something is gonna happen to them. You can run browser addons such as adblock plus and WOT. If you are that worried, just scan it before connecting to your network again.

Use Shadow Defender to protect your system, by reverting everything after a reboot. If anything infiltrates or gets installed when using a public network, it should revert it. Add Zemana AntiLogger which will protect you (SSL) and Keylogging. That should be enough for your trip.

How about one of those inexpensive Cloud Computers? They are bound to be faster than your old laptop, can be very inexpensive and are virtually virus proof.

Thanks!

Well I’m not sold on cloud stuff yet for a number of reasons, but my biggest problem is that I don’t always have an internet connection.

As it turned out I only had internet for the first 3 days and it was data limited. I could go onto forums, but no streaming video or music. For the rest of the month I was limited to stuff already on my computer which got boring real fast and I just stuck it in my bag for the rest of the trip.

About a week ago I tried Shadow Defender on my netbok and it slowed the thing down like mad. I even tried VooDoo Shield and got the same thing.

I have to say that this Asus Eee is so slow especially when connected to the internet that I may just get rid of it and buy a better laptop. About the only thing it does well is play Pandora music on my stereo so I guess I could just leave it in my garage for music.
