Need Cheap back up (funds are low) , my burner is dead no computer to back up on, was thinking external hardrive, or something, any ideas would be great. I need about 20 gigs of space.
You wouldn't happen to have a miniDV or Digital8 camcorder, would you? There's a very cool program called Firestreamer(if I remember correctly) that allows you to use your camcorder as a tape drive... I tried it, and just as with any tape device, it's a bit sluggish, but it worked great!
how about an external cd burner, i really dont care about speed so that is not a factor for me. What is the price range for such secies and are any brands better than others? Thanks for the insight.
the only thing is that i would like to put the data i want to back up on few computers, so that is a great option for one computer but i dont watn to do it for a couple of cpu.
yeah i agree with dan. you can still put the data back on whichever computer. with the cd burner idea, you are going to be using a lot of cd-r. the cd-r plus the cd-rw is going to be more expensive than an internal hdd. you can find like 160 gigs sometimes at bestbuy or retailers for like 50$ after rebate.
So to back up my information every time i would have to open the caswe install the back up hardrive and then take out the back up drive an then put case together. Basically i should jsut get an external hard drive. How is the external drive attached to the computer, usb, ethernet etc...?
So I will be backing up information from a win98 machine and a win XP machine with a hardrive in a hardrive caddy. I have read that there might be some problems with the information since the two machines are on different platforms. Any insight into this would be great.
If you have an external hard drive, then you can backup your files from your 98 and xp machines without any problems (although you might need to install the drivers for win98).
They had an external 2-button backup hard drive with 80GB of storage for $49.99 after $50 mail in rebates. I bought one, dont use the button backup tho, they dont work good.
