Hey guys I'm new here and I been trying to find this info online and I can not get it anywhere.

First I'm not a geek pon computer at all just a basic user and I'm trying to upgrade my Graphic Card on my HP Computer I have an HP m7087c where I upgraded about 1 year ago the graphic card that came with it for a XFX Geforce 6800GS 256MB and also the Power suply to a 500W.

Now before I buy a new computer I would like to see if I can just upgrade the graphic card one more time since the computer it's not that bad for what I do but I am not getting good frame rates on Microsoft Flight simulator X with this card only like 8 to 10 average!!!! really not too good.

I have 3.5GB of RAM on this comp that I have added and my main question is that I was looking at the Geforce 8800GTS 640MB or 8800GT 512MB but I'm not sure If I can fit this card on my computer since the Power cord on the Moder board is right there if the card is longer than the one I have now.

So the card I'm using the Geforce 6800GS is 9'' Long from the Front Metal part to the rear of the Card and the 8800's are 9'' long also but I'm not sure from where I'm afraid to buy it and then wont fit!!!

Also will the 500W power suply be good or will I also have to upgrade the PS???

Thank you

Evga (good brand) lists their 8800gt's as being 9" long, and alittle less than 4 1/2" high. Sounds like it will fit, given your current cards dimensions.

But more important at this time, is the specs of that computer. The base specs on HP.com show it as being a P4, which would be a severe bottleneck to either card. In other words, you wouldn't get the most out of those cards, because your computer specs would be holding the video card back. Furthermore, because of how tech works, you couldn't just buy and pop in a new processor, you would have to buy a new (mATX) motherboard, and RAM, etc. It would be recommended at this point, to just start a new build...

mmm ok it figures,, I was afraid of that,,,I guess I'll have to get a new computer if I want better performance,,yes the spacs are the same as teh one you see there I have only changed the Power suply and Graphic card when I bought it!!!

Is it better to build one or buy it I been looking at one on Newegg but maybe it cna be bild better for the same $$$ that one costs I'm not sure,,,this is what I been looking at ...this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883107499

or this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883107517

What do you think are they ok for the price or I can build them much cheaper/??

Thank you

Building a computer, by buying the specific components off a site like Newegg, is much cheaper than buying pre-built. Those builds you linked to are complete rip-offs, IMO. :)

E6750 - 189.00
P35 DS3L Motherboard - 99.00
2gb's (2x1gb) Corsair PC2-6400 - 24.99 after $40 MIR
Evga 8800gt 512mb - 239.00 (free ship)
Seagate 7200rpm 500gb SATA HDD - 119.00
Corsair 450w PSU -65.00 after $10.00 MIR
Lite-on DVD optical drive - 25.00
BenQ 22" 5ms WSXGA LCD -$259.00

Works out to $1020.00 bones, your choice of case. (I couldn't decide) ;) the actual process of building is very easy too, so no worries.

I second the 8800GT for the GPU but I have to recommend one of the 45nm CPUs, one of the E8000 C2D's will do fine.

they're actually out now ;) search for em on the web. I would have bought one myself, but I heard that it was at least 4 more months before they were out :( and I didnt want to wait, but I had bought my e7650 and mobo already this year and dont want to hassle myself with it =p the cheapest core2duo 45nm was $189.99US on a site I found, unfortunately I don't remember its name. =p

but back to the point, they're all right, buying components and putting them together yourself is the most cost efficient way of going at it. you could pay 1500 for an HP or Dell made system that you could make yourself for 800 :)

mmmm Ineresting I was thinking there wasn't going to be that much difference in buying it built ot building it!!!

I guess I'll have to build one now what would you guys build????

Can I have a list of everything I will need to build one that will be sort of bad a$$, from the Case to everything else inside!!!
Software I dont care I have a friend on computers that can get me a good origianal copy of XP Pro,,,I'm not sure if I really like Vista or not I have plaied with it at the store and I'm not very convinced its a lot different than what I was used to. But if it is better to have it I'll have it!!!

Thank you all for all your replies I can wait to see what you guys can build here for me!!!!
