Need duel boot XP an Vista Help

i have tryed to do this but when i do it i dont get the option to chose what OS to boot it just goes to the last one i installed.
why is this an how do i fix it?

If you have xp install first and want to install vista second then you need to partition your hdd using third party software . If you have a 2nd hdd to put vista on, but if you have vista install first then their is a utility on vista to create a partition from shrink your hdd or extend the hdd(vista cool utility tool)
