Need hard drive back-up advice

I purchased a new Certance tape back up to use on my 3 networked machines. It worked very well backing all 3 hard drives when I was running Windows 98 SE, but when I upgraded to XP problems immediately started. Now the tape back-up gets about half done and errors out telling me that the tape is unusable or that the back-up has dirty heads (both of which are untrue). I currently use Retrospect software.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Are there other more reliable methods of backing up 3 hard drives that is still affordable? questions, questions

Well, affordable depends on what the total capacity the hard drives are. Are they old harddrives, and when you sayu affordable, what do you mean, a poor persons affordable can be very different to a rich mans one......

The HD with the most data contains 140GB, I'm sure the other two don't have quite that amount of data on them. The Certance tape back up cost me $400.00 and tapes were roughly $35. each. I probably have 12 floating around.

i only know one person that uses a tape drive and that person manages a about 150 computers but its not all data just files and emails and all that good stuff and he has all the tape drives in a climet controled building in the other side of the state. i would recomend if you dont already have get a dvd burner and just back everything up on that much more reliable then tape (cds dont deteriate that easly) if you arent intrested in dvd burner then just use rar and a regular cd burner.

What is the size of the hard drives that you are trying to back up? External hard drives are pretty cheap these days, and probably the easiest way to do what you're looking for...
