Need HD space

Currently I own an 8 year old Gateway 710S. I've upgraded the memory to a whopping 768MB RAM. However the hard drive is just about out of space b/c of all of the photos I have stored on it. I use the computer for only basic things like email, paying bills, some word processing, and every now and then I edit photos taken from my subcompact Sony digital camera.

The computer has been very reliable over the years. The biggest problem I have with it is for some reason it has problems recognizing the Dell monitor (I sold my Gateway monitor) I have with it after it upgrades. To solve this, I simply don't upgrade any more. This hasn't really caused any issues yet.

Should I:
1. Buy a new computer. Nothing special, just something that will allow me to keep on trucking.
2. Buy a new external HD. I don't know much about external HD's. For this to be an option, I will need to be able to have it hooked-up and turned on 24/7 so that I can access it via my wireless network. I would love for this to come to fruition, but it would have to be reliable under these conditions.
3. Buy and install an additional internal HD.

Buy or build a new computer, don't waste any more money on this system as its way outdated.

Went with the external HD. Bought a WD Elements that has 2TB of storage. Got a good deal, only $85.00. Seems to be working great and I can access it from any computer in the house. And, if the old Gateway croaks, I can always hook it up to my DVR and store movies on it.
