Need help ASAP with ugrading PC

hi ,
I upgraded MOB,CPU,RAM and HDD on my PC.
here is specifications

CPU INTEL Pentium D925.

RAM 2 GB DDR2 Kingston 667

HDD one Orignal IDE and 1 SATA 2 on SATA 3 Port on MOB.

MOB
ASRock ConRoe1333-D667 R1.0(VGA,2DDR2-667,PCI-E)


I had XP on my IDE.

IDE is set to be SLAVE.

CD is MASTER.

BUT when i turn on the computer nothing heppens other than blinking cursor.

when go to BIOS it shows all the connected drives and new CPU and RAM but it shows 233 instead of 667

what should be the settings to run XP .
what should be the boot order.
do i need to set master or slave on sata

so currently you are trying to install windows on your computer? if so, set your DVD drive to first boot device in the bios, it cant just be master.
 
If you have both a HDD and a CD on the same IDE cable, and you want that HDD to be your OS drive, then you can NEVER have the HDD set to slave. The drive the OS is on always has to be master.


Now if you are wanting your CD drive to be bootable, you have to go into your bio's and set it to boot from the cd first, then the HDD second.

I already had XP on IDE drive. can i just us the previous copy or do i need to install a new copy.

Since you replaced the mobo, you're gonna have to reinstall Windows XP. :(

If you need to transfer your files, try the Files and Settings transfer wizard in XP. There are other methods, but that's probably the easiest.

Hi thanks for the reply.

I switched my Cd drive to be slave and HDD to be MAster.

now i am Getting to the screen where it asks for windows to run in

Normal Mode
SAfe Mod
Networking mode

if i select Normal it goes through another cucle of Boot and ask the question again.

I think i need to install XP again .

But my question is can i install XP on Sata or Do i have do it in IDE again

If I do it in IDE will it slows down my computer than if it was installed on SATA.

What happens to the copy of XP already on IDE will i loose it along with all the programs like MS office and Antivirus.

Since you have to reinstall Windows (or WinD'oh's, whichever you prefer), I would recommend installing XP on the SATA hard drive. Not only is SATA faster, this will also give you the opportunity to recover files from the IDE hard drive. You must have a Windows XP installation CD in order to complete the preceding steps.

In addition to reinstalling XP, you will have to reinstall programs like MS Office, antivirus applications, etc.

Ok So there is no way to use the programs that are installed on the IDE.

Unfortunately, no. You will have to reinstall them after you install XP. The good news is that you can continue to use your IDE hard drive for storage. All the files on the IDE will remain intact. This is kinda important: Leave your IDE drive unplugged when you install Windows. After the installation is complete, plug it in and see if Windows recognizes the IDE drive.

I was thinking of doing that . my only concern is if i install IDE after would xp on that will cause any problems .

No. Just make sure the SATA drive is first in the boot priority in the BIOS. After you install XP, you could backup all your data on the IDE to removable media, or external storage and format the IDE. That would effectively remove the old Windows installation.
