Hi,

The diode(cylinder shaped object) broke off my USB this morning and as a result wont work! Does anyone know if it can be reattached/a new one be attached? All my college work is on this so if anyone has any advice on what to do I would be extreemly greatful!

Regards

Louis

You may be able to solder it back on, idk.

Why are the innards exposed on your USB stick?
That stuff should be all contained within the plastic shell.?

I know but the shell came off and with it it pulled the diode when i pulled it out of the PC.. I was thinking soldering wold be the only way but im not sure if thres enough steel exposed on the diode for this to work. Thanks for the advice though. Appreciate it.

Anyone know of any good repair shops in dublin?

if there isnt that much wire from the diode exposed, can you not get some wire, solder that to the diode and then solder the wire+diode onto the usb stick. It will be a really messy, getto fix, but should work for you to get your stuff off the stick and then you can back it up and put it on a new one, or that one if it works well

Yeah I've sent it off to get fixed but their not too hopeful I dont think... Hopfully they can do as you said above and it can be fixed so I can get the files off it and then bin it!!
