Need help booting a new build

IPXP

New Member
Hiya everyone,

I've just built my first PC but I'm having trouble booting to the WinXP disk so I can partition and format the drive.

When I start the PC it runs through BIOS check and I get:

Boot Failure
Insert BOOT diskette in A:
Press any key when ready

I've tried setting the 1st boot device to the cd-r drive but it still won't boot from the WinXP disk.

And I've tried booting from my Win98 boot disk, with no luck.

Can anyone help?

1. Please follow the rule on the top of the forum category and then post back with specs.

Okies sorry Lord Anthrax ^_^

P4 3g CPU, 1g RAM, 200g Maxtor HDD, DVD-RW, CD-RW, FDD, on a ASRock P4S61 motherboard.

No cards.

1. Make sure the floppy drive is installed correctly (Floppy cable is in right way)
2. Go into Bios and make sure you have CD0 as the first boot device
3. Disable boot devices 2 and 3
4. Make sure "Boot from other device" is on disabled

Go into your BIOS, and change the boot order to CD, Floppy, then HD. If you still get that message, try disabling floppy on bootup, so it only tries to boot from cd and hd.

how do u know its a Her /its might be a he
When was gender ever specified in this thread?

Anyway, try what I mention and see what happens. You CAN set all 3 boot devices but it's just easier to just have 1 boot device selected so you KNOW what it's booting from and not what it wants to SELECT what to boot from.

I've honestly always thought they were the same things, my ass needs some teachin' now.
Why would your ass need teaching? I thought it was the brain that stored the information...although I have seen some strange people.:P

Floppy Seek:
This BIOS feature determines whether the BIOS checks for a floppy drive during boot-up or not.

If enabled, the BIOS will attempt to detect and initialize the floppy drive. If it cannot detect one, it will flash an error message. However, the system will still be allowed to continue the boot process.

If this feature is disabled, the BIOS will skip the floppy drive check. This speeds up the booting process by several seconds.

Floppy Boot:

Whether or not the computer looks to boot from a floppy at startup.

Ok, so I wasn't wrong for once! Hip hip hooray!

Thanx for all the replies guys, or was that gender specific? lol I tried booting for just the cd-rw, didn't work, same when I tried booting from just the dvd-rw drive.

I get the message:
Reboot and select proper bot device or insert boot media in selected boot device

Any further suggestions?
