Need help building a computer.

It's time for me to get a new computer, so I figured I go down the route of another custom one, and have someone put it together for me. I just need some help as for what to get to go inside of it :)

This will be mainly used for gaming, but will have a few basic programs on it such as Word and what not. It's going to be my college computer for the next 4 years. Because I want it to last the 4 years, I figured i'd go with the DX10 GPU. Currently the games I play are not too graphic intensive, but I just don't want to have to do a major upgrade within the next 4 years.

My maximum budget is around $2200-$2400. I should be ordering this computer within the next few weeks. I was initially looking at a laptop, but figured I could get much more for the same price with a desktop computer. So i'd like to get the equivalent in a desktop, if not more.

Just something to add... you have no motherboard. This is a pretty vital component of the PC, and partly determines what other devices you can install into it. For cheap motherboards, you could also try Ebuyer and The Scan. They're both pretty good retailers, and I have built numerous PC's using their parts. You really need to post some more info on what you'll use the PC for and you're budget before we can give you any real help.
 
If you dont feel comfortable building one, you would need to buy the parts first and then take them somewere to be put together...if you have them buy/order the parts....you will def get ripped
 
Not worth it for the price, and buying computer from ebay is dangerous since if there's something wrong with it you can't really do much other, yes you can assemble yours is easy you're just being afraid of making a mistake, which everyone does even professionals
 
Hrm, I may try building my own, it doesn't seem too hard. Installed my own video card and ram and what not.

So back to my original question, and suggestions on what I have listed so far? How about Power Supply / Hard Drives? What should I look for in those?

Or does anyone know of a reputable company that builds custom PCs for you?

2400 for that. Way overpriced in my eyes. Ive mapped that system on newegg for 1900. With a sick case. I wonder where the 500 went. Thats why I hate buying pc's from HP,DELL ETC..... Found out that building your own is really fun and alot cheaper

Good luck with the new Intel. Im wondering how fast those things are gonna be with the 1333 fsb

One of the reviews I read told that the 1333 fsb really only made a minute difference, something that is not normally noticable, but it also said that this version was easier to overclock than the 6700. Said they got 3.5 ghz, with the stock fan that came with it, and was able to keep it stable.

I'll update when I get it to let you know how it performs.

As for the price, I'm not bothered by it. $100 was for installation / buliding it (including install the OS and what not.) Another $100 for an additional warranty on a few parts.

I'm sure you could get it fairly cheaper, but the prices between Frys and newegg were within 3-5% of each other, so that didn't bother me too much, especially since I didn't want to learn how to build a computer off of such a nice one for me.
