Need help building a custom computer.

Ok I just got approved for a line of credit from newegg.com and I was looking at building a custom computer for gaming. I have about a $1,100 price limit. It is mainly going to be used for gaming and Internet surfing / file downloading. So I need help choosing parts for the computer. Where do we start? I originally bought a Dell XPS 400 and I cancelled the order because I was told I can get a lot more performance out of a custom computer.

Remember the primary focus is GAMING and Internet stuff.

Also 100% of everything must come from www.newegg.com

Well I dont know. I was told that AMD and Nvidia is best for gameing. Is that true? Because I have no idea. lol

But I do need...

-Windows XP SP2
-a LCD monitor. I would think that a 19" analog would be fine.
-at least a 150 gig HD
-DVD +/- RW drive.
I dont need a mouse, speakers or a keyboard.

Yes. And, if you get the right motherboard and memory like Rambo did, you can overclock the E6300 to well over 2.5 Ghz (he has his around 3.4 :) )

Yes it has better microarchitecture so it does more work per cycle so it outpreforms the 4200+ even though it has smaller clock speed.

Processor: Core 2 Duo E6300
Motherboard: Asus P5B Deluxe
Case: Antec P180B
RAM: Corsair TWIN2X1024A-6400
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500KS
Optical Drive: SHM-165H6S
Video Card: connect3D 3058 Radeon X1900GT
Sound Card: Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 4

But that core duo is only 2.13 ghz. how can a 2.13 ghz duo be faster then a 3.0 or 3.2 ghz pentium d? Is that core duo truely going to be faster then any other AMD or pentium processor that is the same price? How will that processor work for makeing cd and dvd's and surfing the net? Will it be faster then the Pentium D 2.8 GHz. for that stuff?

The new Core 2 Duo is the newest CPU from Intel, and it probably is confusing to see that it is slower. However, this means nothing, as it is substaintally faster than any other CPU on the market today. Get Core 2 Duo.

Clock speed doesn't mean everything.

Also what happens after I buy all this stuff and its put in? I turn on the computer then what? Do I just insert the Windows CD and follow the directions and that’s all? What about the bios? Do I have to buy a bios program or how does that work? Does the mother board have a bios program built in? I am wondering how hard it is to do all the software work.

The BIOS is the code for the motherboard, and is stored in semi-permanent memory on the motherboard. You use it to adjust the speeds of your processor and memory, but you can also destroy your computer if you do certain things in it, like boost the voltage on the processor a lot. You access it by pressing F2 or Delete during startup

Yes, you just insert the windows cd and start it up, following the instructions.

What about cases? Can I get just any case? Also about power supplys. I know you need one that will be able to power all the components but is that all you have to worry about? Can I get just like any 450 watt one or more? Or do different PSU's put out different voltage levels and use different connectors for different mobo's and such?
