Need help building a PC

I am thinking of getting a new computer and I have decided to build my own. I think I am going to buy everything from Tiger Direct to put together. I believe I’m tech savvy enough to do it since I have installed just about every type of hardware that can be installed on a computer. But I want to get some help to make sure I do it right.

Also, this is to be a gaming computer if that helps.

First I need to make sure I got the full list of things needed to make my computer work. Here is what I have, tell me if anything is missing.

Motherboard and Memory (comes with the bare bones set I am buying.)
Video Card
Sound Card
Power Source
Windows Software
Hard Drive
Ethernet Card (for the modem)

Are there any other major parts needed to make a computer work that I am forgetting?

Second question is about a cooling system. I see they also sell cooling fans. Do I need these and how many? I don’t want my computer to blow up 5 minutes after I turn it on.

Really that’s about all I need to know. Of course extra information would be useful. Such as any good tips you know or any warnings about mistakes people usually make when building a computer.

You are using a modem?

you forgot Proccessing Unit and Case!

Find out how many fans and what size fans the case can take and buy what you can whether it be 80mm, 92mm, 120mm etc. FOr a guideline I have 3 120mm fans (one front, one side and one rear) and I find them sufficient.

I have a cable modem, and I assume thats an ethernet connection that I am using. Of course it can also use a USB hookup so I guess I dont need an ethernet card.

Oh and processing unit and case come with that bare bones system i talked about as well.

Yep, Thats the Ethernet Connection :D

Also, Most new Motherboards will come with a Ethernet port built in.

If you get a decent Motherboard, a Gigabit port might be included.

Do you know what Barebone system you are getting?

RipUK, Only 3?

I have Overkill :D

I got 7 :D

2 In the back, 2 at the front pushing onto hdd's, 2 on Side and one on top.

All Neons :D

I would suggest having as many fans as your case will support, The better air flow the cooler your computer will run.

Power Supplys Come Pre Assembled.

Unless, you get a top of the line PSU, Which will have Plugs to select which Ones you would like to use.

Motherboards, They are one of the easiest things you can do in a computer.

Its a matter of,

Installing CPU
Installing Cooler
Installing Ram
Installing Stand offs into Case

Then Simply screwing motherboard onto the Stand Offs :D

So Basically, Your going too need to find

- Optical Drive
- Extra USB Ports if you need them
- Fans
- Speakers, What are you doing for them?

I have a DVD drive I just purchased, I think I can use that one. I have some decent speakers I can use too. But lately I have just been using headphones.
