Need help burning a DVD

So i have some football film on my computer(of me), and i am trying to make sort of a highlight film. My problem is i can burn it onto the DVD using the DivX burning software. It works fine on a computer, but i cannot get it to work on my home DVD player. I also tried converting it to .mpg(it is in .avi currently) and burning it and that didnt work either.

If any one could give me a step by step guide of how to do this i would be very greatful!
 
You can burn the movie file by converting it to .avi file then use nero for the film.

One thing that I have done before is using Magic ISO. It converts all the files to movie and you can burn it with all the files.

You can see the bytes of the files that you have burned into the disc varies from the original file. Some of them are missing but when you check all the files are there. Yu can avoid this by using magicISO.

Thank you, i have another question. I rented Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny. For some reason it is not being recognized by my DVD drive. I have put other movies in and watched them but i cant seem to get TD to work. Any advice or answers?
