This is going to be my first time building a comp and i have help. My problem is choosing a cpu. The build is for gaming (pure WoW). Now i want a computer to last me a few years.
So the cpu I am looking at still need to be released. There very strong and have 6 cores. I have been doing a little bit of research and found out that it wont be worth it.

First one
Core i7-970
This cpu wont be released sometime around fall. It rumored to be sold at 500-600. However i really dont want to wait untill fall. I was already patient for 2 years.

Second
Core i7-980 XE
This is a very powerful one. But rumors are saying it will cost 900-1500. Another rumor is that it will be released very soon (sometime in march). My uncle once built his own comp and he bought a very high end cpu. He told me not to do it. It wont be worth it.

Should i just go with some of the older models of i7. Or is it worth buying the strong cpu's?

Do you really want to buy a 6 core/12 thread CPU to play WoW ?

Just buy an i5 750 and a good GPU (like HD5870), and you should play any game with no problem. If you only want to play WoW, then even HD5750 is more than what you need

Maroon is right. Only for WoW is not worth it. Unless you are some crazy game fan then yeah maybe it's worth it. But also the price is overpriced. Why you want to spend like 1k for processor if you can get lets say for example i7 920 and overclock it to the same speed as those you want to buy. You can even overclock it higher and you will save a lot of money on it.

yes i heard the i5 750 is overclocked is better then the i7 overclocked

ehhh, not really. Lynnfield will be ever so slightly faster clock for clock on single threaded applications only.

If he has the money, I7 920 is still the way to go.
