i currently have a dell board socket 478 w/ a Pentium 4 2.4GHz Northwood Core (NO HT) this board supports duel channel memory

i also have a msi 661fx sis 661 chipset motherboard (No cpu and does not support duel channel memory)

i am thinking of upgrading my cpu but need to know if i will notice a significant boost in performance, mainly with boot times and when encoding or recoding dvd to mp4 files using nero (btw i am using 1G of ddr400 ram 2 x 512)

Will the following 2 cpu be significantly better than the one i currently am using, and if so which platform should i use

should i get socket 478 Pentium 4 #GHz Northwood Core w/ HT (mind you that my 478 board supports duel channel memory)

or should i get socket 775 Pentium 4 530 #GHz Prescott Core w/ HT (mind you that my 775 board does NOT support duel channel memory)

thank you so much for you opinions

is the ddr400 ram dual channel? i say go with w/e has the ram with it, if the ram isnt dual channel then get the 775 processor and sell your northwood

yes the ddr400 is duel channel...with the dell board ill have duel channel ram but not able to over clock, and with the msi 775 i wont have duel channel memory but will be able to over clock a little ....whats better

dual channel isn't as big of a advantage as the socket 775 CPU would be. I'd go with it, and in the future, u can upgrade even farther more easily.
