Need help extending bluetooth range

I recently got a bluetooth keyboard and mouse to use with my secondary monitor which is located in another room. I was very hopeful that Bluetooth would exceed the range and functions of regular wireless devices which were not being detected behind the wall in the next room.

Having set up a bluetooth keyboard, mouse, and gamepad... I've found that the keyboard and mouse are very unreliable -- laggy, unresponsive, drops connections, and sometimes gets stuck as if a button is pressed in. As for the gamepad, it is much more responsive, and only gets 'stuck' or a few presses might be missed once in awhile.

I know Bluetooth is not perfect but my PS3 controller is able to control my PS3 from that same room and the PS3 is much further than my computer is, with no issue whatsoever.

I have a few ideas:

Purchase a usb extension cable and plug in the bluetooth adapters closer to the room. However this might be troublesome as the only place I can really run the cables is through my drop ceiling. I BELIEVE I have heard that USB extension cables can only go so far, and will eventually be unreliable. If I got a 30ft or so cable and a 2port hub(or just two 30ft cables), would there be any additional issues?

My other idea is based out of what I'm hoping might be true --- buy a stronger bluetooth receiver. It seems that my gamepad bluetooth receiver in my computer is performing better than the keyboard and mouse -- and that is a higher Bluetooth revision. I know I can buy any other bluetooth dongle and sync up my keyboard and mouse, so perhaps there are stronger ones that perform better through walls and at greater distances?

If anyone has any experience or input regarding either idea, I would love to hear it. Or perhaps some other idea. If you need any further information, let me know.

Really hoping someone here will set me in the right direction. I'm very close to making this situation work, so I'm hoping there is a solution for me.

Thanks!

There was a comment here and now it's gone.

Anyway -- I purchased both a Bluetooth 3.0 Class 1 adapter as well as a 32ft active USB extension cable.

The highest quality bluetooth adapter that touted "300 ft" of range could connect, but in certain positions my actions on my mouse/keyboard/gamepad would be delayed or unrecognized. It was unacceptable for what I needed.

I then ran the 32ft cable through the drop ceiling and into the room on a shelf just above me. Since then, the bluetooth devices have worked great. Now I question if I just should use regular wireless devices, since I spent so much on getting bluetooth to work, and the adapter is now just about 4ft above me. This wasn't the ideal way to get it to work, but the functionality is nice. I threw a 3-port USB hub at the end of the wire, but I question if the extra ports will work over a long range. Gonna do more testing, but that's how I have tentatively solved this.
