Need Help Figuring Out Problem

I've just installed 4 GB (2 x 2GB) worth of ram on my computer and it has started to (for lack of a better word) freeze.

It's the weirdest thing I've ever encountered. Programs freeze but windows runs smoothly. For example firefox becomes very choppy and if I'm lucky it'll stay that way. Sometimes it freezes completely and I can't load task manager to end the process.

I ran windows memory test utility but it didn't detect any problems. Memtest froze to for some reason the screen went black, plus I was kind of lost. I didn't know what to do.

The only thing I can tell you is I am 100% my ram is compatible with my motherboard.

Could it be a RAM Issue or should I be looking at something else?

Edit:

It's a ram issue. I took out the 2 new sticks and replaced them with my old one and the computer is running smoothly again. I'm not quite sure if it's a settings problem (something I can fix through bios) or simply having a bad stick of RAM.

What do you think?

Well lets see do you run a pre-built system like Emachine or Dell or did you build your own system?

If you built it then there is a chance that either A. memory is bad or B the timings are not set correctly.

Make sure the clock + voltage is set to the packages standards. Example my ram was pre-set to 4-4-4-12 @ 1.8v where it was suppose to be at 5-5-5-15 @ 18v (thus caused crashes)

If its a HP/Dell then most likley you can't edit this feature since they lock BIOS and you wont be able to double check.

Also listing us your PC or specs could help us figure out the issue. Also don't rely on Windows for anything but browsing porn use memtest to fully test the ram http://www.memtest.org/

I put it together myself. I wasn't having any problems til I bought the new RAM.

AMD 4600+ (Dual Core)
MSI k9n Platinum
4GB Kingston Value RAM (2x2GB)

Memtest fails when I try to run it.

I have the mobo on auto detect settings which could be the problem. I have no idea how to set it manually it's more complicated than I thought. This is the ram I have:-

Edit:

For anyone who's having the same problem

I used the information from the manufacturer and had to read up and understand everything relating to RAM. Went to bios and set everything manually. Worked like a charm.
